Numerical Weather Prediction and Forecasting Expert

A 24-month intermittent consultancy strengthening Pakistan’s operational weather forecasting through numerical weather prediction, ensemble and probabilistic methods, verification, post-processing and flood-forecasting applications.

Pakistan

Why we picked it

This is a high-specialisation climate-services role with a clear technical mandate and room to influence forecasting workflows. It suits a senior meteorological modeller who can translate research-grade methods into operational service.

Best for Experienced numerical-weather-prediction and operational-forecasting specialists with a relevant master’s degree and at least eight years of progressively responsible experience.

What you'll do

Assess current capability; recommend model configurations, domains, resolution and workflows; implement and evaluate agreed NWP workflows; improve ensemble and probabilistic forecasts; strengthen verification and post-processing; and define observation and climate-data needs.

Who they want

The stored notice asks for a master’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, NWP, applied mathematics, physics, environmental sciences or a close field, plus operational NWP experience, comparable assignments and practical ensemble, verification, data-assimilation or high-resolution modelling skills. HPC and flood-forecasting experience are relevant advantages.

Before you apply

Inputs are intermittent over 24 months and total eight person-months; intermittent input does not establish remote work. The application record requires a separate expression of interest and CV for each role, and one applicant may receive only one role. Compensation and working language are not stated.
